Precise Geo-targeting as One Benefit of Facebook Advertising

Geo-targeting on Facebook belongs to basic targeting options of its advertising network. You can target specific countries, states, cities or areas in precise radius (from 1 mile to 50 miles range).

Including or Excluding Precise Locations in FB Ads

Let’s say you want to target people living just around the Central Park. You can choose Everyone in this location, whose home or most recent location is within the selected area, or try to target them in a more specific way:

  • People who live in this location = People whose home is within the selected area
  • People recently in this location = People whose most recent location is within the selected area
  • People traveling through this location = People whose most recent location is within the selected area but whose home is more than 125 mi/200 km away.

This gives you plenty of possibilities how to deal with any specific demands on geo-targeting needed. Beside including the audience, with Facebook Ads Manager you can also exclude people. Let’s say, we want to target everyone in the New York city except people in the Central Park at the moment. In Facebook advertising system, the setup of the pins would look like this. No idea, why would you do so, but actually it’s a piece of cake to do.

Microtargeting in Facebook Advertising at Its Best: Including Only One Side of a Border Area

More useful exploitation would be targeting a border area of a specific country. This is just like targeting people visiting Niagara Falls, but only on the US side. Simply drop the pin to 10 miles range from the Goat Island and exclude Canada as a whole country. This would bring you visitors of this spectacular natural wonder on the US side only. On the map, it would look like this:

If you are working with Facebook Ads frequently, you can always choose, which tool, settings or option is the most suitable for you. But geo-targeted advertising with the usage of pins is without doubts one of the most impressive things Facebook advertising offers to its advertisers. Because it brings a micro-targeting to real life and helps advertisers use their budgets much more effectively.
